Our mission: JALT promotes excellence in language learning, teaching, and research by providing opportunities for those involved in language education to meet, share, and collaborate. With the support of the JALT Executive Board, the International Conference and Exhibition on Educational Materials will be fully online with live video sessions, pre-recorded video presentations, opportunities for exhibitors, virtual social events, etc. The conference planning team is working on the details and will be posting information as we confirm everything. As a nonprofit organisation dedicated to the improvement of language teaching and learning in Japan, JALT has a rich tradition of publishing relevant material in its many publications. The aim of this presentation is to show the basic process of KAKENHI application and explain how to write an appealing research proposal. Bad behavior by teachers a growing problem
One demographic that might be feeling the confusion more than most are non-Japanese foreign-language teachers. This sense of uncertainty is shared by both new arrivals to Japan and experienced instructors alike, according to conversations unfolding on social media platforms such as Twitter, Reddit and Facebook. As the decision on what to do rests with individual boards of education, some reported confusion at their workplaces, while others speculated they will still be expected to come into school for work during March.
We are both qualified teachers in the UK, yet the only thing that’s are typically held in high regard by their employees and students. boyfriends and husbands, hidden cameras, stalking, and date rape, it is very distressing.
On March 26, , a cluster of plainclothes police officers gathered around a drab apartment block in Ichikawa, Chiba Prefecture. English teacher Lindsay Hawker had been absent from her job with the Nova conversation school chain for several days. Friends knew Hawker had been scheduled to meet a student, Tatsuya Ichihashi. Ichihashi had been arrested before for assaulting a woman, making him a person of interest.
He was not a large man, but he was wiry and fit. When the officers tried to apprehend him as he left his apartment, he slipped their grasp. On the balcony, in a bathtub filled with sand and compost, they found the year-old Briton. She had been beaten, sexually assaulted and strangled. If there is one place teachers and students should feel safe, it is in the eikaiwa English conversation school classroom, yet harassment is not unheard of.

Too often when I see the word, “teacher” in a headline these days, it quickly is followed by the words, “sex scandal. Sex crimes are sex crimes, and they’re to quote Law and Order: SVU particularly heinous against children. Teachers who sexually assault students generally get fired, sued, arrested, or some combination of the three. But more and more frequently I read or hear about teachers and students entering into inappropriate relationships that don’t necessarily involve physical contact.
What happens in these grey areas? When there is no actual assault, or even overt physical contact, but just flagrant intent? From what I’ve seen, these teachers get off scot-free, or with a minor slap on the wrist. This is extremely problematic. As a teenage girl, I know just how often I feel like an adult. I believe that I can and do make many of my own mature decisions about sex and my sexuality. The reality is, however, that teenagers are often emotionally unstable.
We are more psychologically akin to children, even though we are sexually developed. This helps explain why young girls are attracted to older men: adults simultaneously provide the promise of security and emotional safety, and the opportunity for a teenager to feel like an adult, sexually.
